Mount Airy Christian Academy, a ministry of Mount Airy Bible Church, mourns the loss of alumna Alyssa Bowen (‘14). A tragic accident on Monday ended her life here on earth, but she received the greatest promotion: she is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Alyssa was a student leader and great role model to the student body during her years at MACA. She was a strong force on both the volleyball and basketball courts. As a MACA Lion, Alyssa received more than 25 awards at the school, conference and national levels. She was awarded the MACA Lioness Award in 2013 as the female athlete of the year.
Alyssa’s impact on the MACA family continued as she sang on the worship team, volunteered on several missions trips, and mentored younger students. Her infectious smile seemed to be always present. At the 2014 commencement ceremony, Alyssa was recognized as the senior who strives to do things wholeheartedly for God; she was given the Colossians 3:23 Award—“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for men.”
Alyssa will be greatly missed, but her legacy will continue to be a great and godly example to all MACA students.
The viewing will be held at Uniontown Bible Church this Friday, December 23, 9–11 AM, and a Celebration of Life Service will follow.
